About me

I have taught the Alexander Technique to adults in private practice and to teenagers within schools for fifteen years. I am a pianist and I was originally introduced to the Alexander Technique through performing, but I have taught the technique to financial advisors wanting to improve their running times; engineers hoping to improve their golf stroke (and lose their back pain!); as well as surgeons and nurses in pain. I also have experience in teaching and supporting people with chronic illness and I individually adapt lessons accordingly.

I am happy and have the skills to work with anyone, whatever your motivation. I initially continued Alexander Technique lessons for myself because my piano playing was immediately enhanced, I loved the feeling of lightness and relaxation during and after lessons, and my aches and pains disappeared.

I am also a qualified Craniosacral Therapist (Resonance CSTA training course) and Teacher (PGCE).

Sessions with Jo changed my posture significantly. Jo is very professional and client-centred, as well as empathic and a great listener.  She sees the core of the problem quickly, and applies the Alexander Technique in a direct but comfortable way. She also has a great sense of humour. I highly recommend her. Alexander Technique Pupil having lessons to improve posture

What I offer

Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a unique mind-body awareness method that enables you to let go of unnecessary tension and change long-standing habits of posture and thought. Whilst all lessons differ, I teach you through gentle hands-on work and verbal feedback, enabling you to apply the technique to everyday activities such as walking, standing, sitting and deeply relaxing lying down work.

Anyone can benefit:
• Poise, vitality and coordination improve
• Breathing and speaking become easier
• Movement becomes freer, lighter and more enjoyable.

Learning and applying the technique leads to less tension throughout the body, and is very useful for postural problems to help you feel light and poised.

Using the Alexander Technique can be beneficial for conditions like anxiety, high blood pressure, some migraines, asthma, arthritis, back/neck/shoulder aches or problems, some voice disorders, repetitive strain injury and joint problems. Although actors, dancers and musicians use it to enhance performance, many people use it simply to gain relief from pain or to reduce stress.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle but potent way of working with the body using light touch. As treatment is very gentle and non invasive, it is suitable for a wide range of client groups and health issues, from the pregnant and new born to those with chronic pain conditions, anxiety, digestive disorders or fertility issues.

Craniosacral Therapy supports your body’s innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself, as well as helping to reduce stress and build your underlying energy. Whilst lying or sitting fully clothed, clients are commonly helped to sense and release tensions in the body in a supported and comfortable way. During or after a session you may feel calm and energised, with increased clarity of mind and a feeling of well-being.
