Welcome. My name is Caroline Wood, an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and I have been in counselling practice since graduating in 2013. I have been working in the therapy profession for more than 30 years, starting as a Shiatsu practitioner and then an NLP practitioner. Before this I was a ceramic artist/potter and creativity has always been important to me. Also, I find that being outdoors in nature is essential for my body, mind and soul.
I look forward to working with you with respect and confidentiality, as you find your journey back to mental, spiritual and emotional wellbeing.
Therapy with me is tailored to suit your specific needs. I can enable you to find resolution with your past or present issues, or equip you with communication skills or emotional regulation skills so that you can live with more ease in the present. I offer short term therapy, in person in central Stroud, or online.
Anxiety, anger management, confidence, self-esteem, communication issues, relationship issues, assertiveness, stress, PTSD are all areas I can help with. I work with both individuals and couples.
Another speciality has been assisting clients to manage and heal from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) caused by historic sexual abuse. This can have long lasting effects. Sometimes it can seem as if the events are forgotten and then suddenly a reminder (a trigger) can bring the memories back again. Or for some clients the memories never go away and may appear as intrusive thoughts or nightmares.
Emotional regulation skills can be useful to learn at the start of therapy, to make your life more manageable and to re-train your brain to respond differently, all at your own pace. Then we can address the changes needed in the areas of your life that have been affected such as personal relationships and with interactions with others, employment, assertiveness and confidence and the relationship with yourself – all without talking about the traumatic event unless you choose to. You can lead a normal life again! PTSD does not have to rule your life.
