About me
I am a Counselling Psychologist, registered with the HCPC and abiding by their code of ethics. I have trained in humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural (CBT) and systemic models of therapy.
Alongside private practice, I have worked in the NHS supporting families living with dementia, provided therapy in various mental health charities such as Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships, and worked at UWE Bristol as a research fellow and lecturer.
My approach to psychotherapy is integrative, prioritising the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for effective therapy. I aim to build a strong and supportive connection with you, tailoring my approach to suit your unique needs through empathy, non-judgment, and care.
As a reflective practitioner, I am constantly learning and keeping abreast of current research and theory, as well as working on my own personal and professional development.
I hold degrees from Bristol (BSc) and UWE (Professional Doctorate) universities in psychology.
What I offer
You may be completely new to therapy or re-engaging with it following a change in circumstance. I work with a range of clients from different backgrounds with all sorts of reasons for coming to therapy, whether working through a painful experience or having dedicated time in your week to check in with yourself. You are most welcome, whatever it is that brings you here.
I am interested in your life story, how the past may be impacting on the present, and use narrative, embodied and creative methods to better understand what is happening for you, co-creating a space which feels safe and ready for you to explore.#
As a first step, feel free to contact me via email to set up a free 15-minute telephone conversation. Each person is different and their situation unique, so we can discuss whether working together feels like a good fit to best support you at this time.
We can devise a provisional plan for our work together, including number and regularity of sessions, and any specific goals you may have. Therapy can bring up strong emotions so we will make sure to pace sessions in a way that does not become overwhelming.
I work with a recovery and wellness-based approach and value the resources and strengths of my clients. I will encourage you to be compassionate towards yourself while challenging unhelpful patterns in your life.
It’s also important to acknowledge wider systemic issues, areas of discrimination and power dynamics at play, where problems may be situated socially rather than individually. Being human means we all face times of distress, which may manifest as anxiety, sadness, pain, anger, confusion or resignation. Thankfully, as a society, we are getting better at understanding ‘mental health’, recognising that we all go through difficult periods in life and need relational support to help us through problems and painful experiences. I will be committed to helping you move forward with your life and make lasting change.
I am currently offering both in-person and online therapy depending on your personal therapeutic needs. Feel free to contact me via email.
