"I have got so much from my sessions with Amanda. She is able to deeply listen and empathise as well as give practical reflections. I felt totally able to express myself in this truly safe and nurturing environment. Most of all, I am grateful that the sessions were not stagnant, focusing solely on the past, but were insightful on current behavioural patterns and ways to grow and heal in the present."
About me
I’m a mum to a brilliant neurodivergent teenager and a very sweet Cavapoo, and I feel incredibly lucky to call the beautiful Cotswolds home. You’ll often find me walking through one of Stroud’s five valleys. Being surrounded by nature gives me space to breathe, think, reflect and recharge, something I believe we all need.
For more than 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of sitting alongside people through some of life’s hardest, most confusing and painful moments. My career has taken me through University Counselling and Mental Health, NHS IAPT therapy services, Employee Assistance Programmes, Private Health Insurance, Drug and Alcohol services, Homelessness, HIV, Domestic Abuse, and a large counselling charity, where I worked as a Training Manager.
Every experience has taught me something about people, resilience and the courage it can take to ask for help. It has shaped me into the compassionate, down-to-earth therapist I am today.
I’m passionate about offering effective evidence-based therapy that creates real change. I’ve trained extensively in ACT, EMDR, CBT, Rewind Trauma Technique, Compassion Focused Therapy, Somatic Techniques, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory and Mindfulness.
"I had the privilege of working with Amanda as my therapist. I can highly recommend working with her. Amanda clearly brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the therapy sessions but also is extremely intuitive. Over the time I worked with Amanda she helped me to explore my feelings and responses and move from thinking to feeling. This has helped me to listen to myself better and respond with more care to myself and others."
What I offer
I offer a warm, safe and non-judgemental space where you can explore what’s happening at your own pace. My aim is for you to leave sessions feeling understood, empowered and more hopeful, with practical skills you can take into everyday life.
One of the approaches I offer is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), which can be particularly effective when working with trauma. Unlike traditional talking therapies, EMDR doesn’t require you to go into lengthy detail about what happened. Instead, it helps your brain process difficult memories, so that distressing thoughts, images and body sensations can become less intense and easier to live with.
My therapeutic approach respects and affirms neurodivergent experiences, LGBTQIA+ identities and diverse cultural backgrounds. I draw from a range of therapeutic models, weaving them together to create a flexible, collaborative approach tailored to you.
Whether this is your first experience of therapy or your tenth, you don’t have to wait for distress to disappear before you start living the life you want. With the right support, you can learn to navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence, clarity and self-compassion.
Please reach out for an initial free 15 minute chat and let’s take your first step together.
Fees: £80-£120 please see my website for full details (fee is linked to the length of sessions). I reserve a limited number of reduced-fee slots for clients experiencing financial hardship. These slots are subject to availability.
"Whilst an excellent listener, Amanda offers many valuable insights sharing her expertise of what helps and can work. She shared with me about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which I find a very enlightened approach. So working with her has a practical benefit. Amongst many things including making sense of late diagnosed ADHD, Amanda has helped me to better support my daughter who is struggling with her mental health. I’m extremely grateful to work with Amanda and can really feel a huge benefit of the work we did over a relatively short period of time."
